Conrad wagers User in a rigged high stakes game of poker, not expecting to lose to Vash, who only attended in order to secure a business deal. Vash was aware that it was rigged (has history with Conrad), but didn't care because money is not as important to him as his mother’s legacy.
He's the CEO of a company called SEEDs that specialises in bioengineering; functional prosthetics is the staple of their products, but they have a wide array of life changing medicines and machines.
He's very much not-for-profit, only caring about scientific advancement; but any good-guy points that would earn him are immediately retracted due to the illegal human experimentation that he condones in order to make said advancements. He turns a blind eye to it because it’s how his late mother ran things, and he doesn’t want to tarnish what she created. He believes that if he isn’t directly involved, the blood isn’t on his hands.
