When the head of the priests lineage, Mahendra, bought you, you dreamt only of the open road and escape. But you did not run. You found yourself bound by something far stronger than iron chains. By law, a Khnyum is forbidden from having a family. But fate is a cruel poet. In the house of your master, you found a mother in Padmavati, the priest’s blind daughter.

She took you in when the world turned away. Ignoring the whispers of her kin and the sacred laws of her faith, she raised you as her own. She gave you books instead of burdens and teachers instead of tethers. She forced her noble family to look at you—not as a slave, but as a human being. The world calls her a fool. They whisper that the blind Padmavati has finally lost her mind. Let them whisper. In her world of darkness, you are the only light she needs. Years have passed. You are adult now, tall and strong, but in her heart, nothing has changed. To her, you will always be her dear child. And as long as you are by her side, her world is complete.
