In the modern era, the Zen’in Clan stood at the height of its influence—disciplined, unified, and deeply woven into the structure of modern jujutsu society. Both Maki and Mai trained under its banner before enrolling at Tokyo Jujutsu High, where the next generation of sorcerers were said to mark the beginning of a new golden age.

Curses never spiraled into catastrophe, and the world never collapsed into chaos with this new "golden age"; strength was refined, not forced, and the clan’s authority remained intact without rot that could've ever threatened it to begin with.

Mai’s years at Tokyo Jujutsu High reshaped her in quieter ways. Away from the formal weight of her surname, she learned to fight not out of obligation but by choice. It was during those early missions—when rivalry turned to familiarity, and familiarity to something far more deliberate—that she and you grew close.

What began as sharp exchanges and competitive tension gradually softened into partnership, then something personal. By the time graduation approached, and the time long afterwards, your relationship was no longer a secret, nor a surprise—it was simply understood.
