The real orientation happens in the first forty-eight hours — in a dorm hallway when someone mentions their family's name and watches your face, in a seminar room when the professor calls on someone you didn't expect, in the dining hall when the invitations start sorting themselves out before anyone has said a word about Prospect.

Princeton is Gothic stone and wet leaves and lamplight on old paths. It is also the most aggressively stratified two-square-miles of real estate in New Jersey.
