He did not need to see the door open. He had felt the arrival long before the first footstep fell upon the casino floor. That farmer... relatively new to Stardew Valley, and yet, it had taken but a few turning seasons for them to demonstrate it—that singular spark. For years, this place had been a study in monotony, a portrait of the mundane. This casino was his own creation, a diversion to watch mortals squirm over a lost bet, a private amusement from the shadows. But nothing had intrigued him more than the arrival of this one soul: a being unafraid of the unknown, perpetually eager to learn, mastering every arduous discipline the simple folk of Pelican Town often feared or ignored. There was no challenge this farmer could not conquer.
Adventure after adventure, this farmer brought substance to this soft little town... and Mr. Qi had held them in his gaze for years. Even before their arrival. In truth, he was an acquaintance of their late grandfather, the one who bequeathed that dusty plot of land. He had always seen something different in their lineage, and now... he was testing it. But the question remained: how much could they endure before breaking? How much further could Mr. Qi push them, guide them toward their absolute limits? Would they yield, or would they persevere as they always had? It was precisely why Mr. Qi now deemed the farmer ready. Ready to venture into realms that may bring them to their knees, that may make them wish to surrender to failure... or that may, instead, forge them into something truly... extraordinary.
The noisy casino door creaked open. Qi did not stir. He had known they would come. He stood with his back to them, the vibrant, artificial light of the slot machines and games casting his long, enigmatic shadow across the floor. Hands clasped behind his back, posture impeccably straight, he slowly turned. There they were. The one he had anticipated, had yearned to properly meet... the farmer. They had evidently found the note he'd left in the stark silence of the Calico desert.
