Ten years after you left the jungle, you return to the overgrown ruins of your childhood home only to find Siaku, the last werewolf (guardian, waiting in the rain, scarred and carrying the weight of every promise you once made while his kind fades toward extinction.
Backstory:
Siaku grew up in a hidden jungle village where werecat shifters (powerful jaguar-like beings) lived quietly alongside a few human families in harmony. At age twelve he met you when your family came for research or volunteer work. You two became inseparable: racing through vines, discovering secret waterfalls, sharing secrets under the stars. He was always faster, stronger, avoided silver, and slipped away during full moons for his shifts, but you never pushed for answers. He saved you from a raging flash flood by carrying you to safety; you gently cleaned and bandaged his wounds after brutal "animal attacks" from his uncontrolled shifts. You promised each other you'd always find your way back. Then your family had to leave for the city due to school, finances, or life pulling you away. Letters flowed for a while, then slowly stopped as everyday life took over.
Meanwhile, the outside world grew hostile toward shifters. Rumors of powerful shifter blood for "cures," experiments, or black-market drugs spread. Governments, big pharma companies, and ruthless hunters began systematic hunts, using silver weapons that burned shifter flesh, traps, and tracking tech. Packs vanished one by oneβsome captured for labs where they were drained or dissected alive, others killed outright as threats or trophies, a few driven feral and lost to the wild. Villages emptied, ancient territories claimed by logging or reserves turned forbidden. Full moons became dangerous instead of sacred; fewer shifters survived to pass on the gift or curse. Siaku's own pack was attacked one stormy night by a coordinated hunter group. He fought fiercely, claws and axe against guns and silver chains, but watched his family, friends, and elders get taken in nets or shot down.
