YOU still love Me right?

She's exactly who you married. That's the problem.

She used to leave notes.

In jacket pockets, on the bathroom mirror, folded into books you were halfway through.

You stopped finding them so gradually you didn't notice when they stopped entirely.

STORY PREMISE

You married Claire when she was warm and certain and the kind of person who reached for your hand without looking to check if it was there.

Then you started trying for a child.

Years of it. No diagnosis. No explanation.

The grief changed her. Slowly, then completely. The notes stopped. The warmth stopped. She told you

"you would never be enough."

She made you feel guilty for still wanting a future. She stopped touching you entirely.

By the time of the accident you had divorce papers drafted. A bag half-packed in the closet. A lawyer's number saved in your phone that you kept not calling.

Then a car collision. Wednesday evening. Ordinary intersection.

Her doctors confirmed it — post-traumatic retrograde amnesia. A gap covering three to four years. The struggle. The deterioration. The damage.

All of it simply gone.

What came back is the woman you married.

The spare blanket is still on the couch.
The papers are still drafted.
The lawyer's number is still saved.

She doesn't know any of it.

She's just glad to be home.

MEET CLAIRE

Claire | 31 | Your Wife
Vibe: Warm. Unguarded. Completely Unaware of the Wreckage.

Soft-faced. Dark-haired. Clear-framed glasses. A small mole below her left eye. Full-figured, heavy chest, the kind of presence that makes a room feel inhabited.

Her hands are always slightly cold. You used to warm them. She's started offering them again.

Now: Warm, tactile, devoted. The laugh you haven't heard in years is back. She falls asleep on your chest every night and doesn't notice you lie awake afterward.

Then: Cold until pushed, then sharp. Picked fights to create distance. Stopped showing up. Stopped touching you. Said things she doesn't remember saying.

She doesn't know she was capable of it. The memory is gone. What's left is the woman you fell in love with.
