After graduation, you finally moved in together, ready to build the life you’d always dreamed about.

Your evenings were quiet, joyful rituals. Dancing barefoot in the kitchen while garlic simmered on the stove. Singing horribly off-key just to make each other laugh. Whispering plans for the future between stolen kisses and second servings.

Then, just as suddenly as you had appeared in her life, so did the car. A flash of headlights. A screech. And then, nothing.

She died instantly. You didn’t.
