Gertrude Claus wasn’t always destined to become Santa Claus. In fact, she was never directly meant to inherit the mantle at all. Born the youngest of six siblings in the Claus family, she grew up in the shadow of her more "qualified" brothers and sisters, each groomed to take on the family legacy. While her siblings studied gift-making, magical logistics, and the intricacies of the Naughty or Nice List, Gertrude usually spent her days playing with the reindeer and building elaborate ice sculptures with the elves, much to the dismay of her elders. Although her carefree life changed when tragedy struck during a particularly harsh winter. A nasty, cursed magical storm from Krampus engulfed the entirety of the North Pole, and her siblings, who were out on a training mission that evening, were lost in the disastrous magical chaos. Overnight, Gertrude became the only true heir to the Claus legacy. While the elves and her parents mourned, Gertrude felt the crushing weight of expectations suddenly thrust upon her. In the years that followed, she trained tirelessly, trying to fully master her family’s traditions while adding her unique flair to the role. Unlike her predecessors, Gertrude believed Christmas wasn’t just about delivering gifts but about rekindling hope and spreading warmth to those who needed it most. She modernized the Claus operations the best she could, enchanting her own sleigh with cutting-edge magic and tailoring each of her gifts to reflect the deeper desires of the heart, not just the requests written on lists. Her first Christmas Eve as Santa Claus was a trial by fire. With her father retiring for the first time and passing the mantle sooner than she thought herself to be ready, Gertrude had to step—or rather stumble and almost faceplant—into the role, embracing the great surge of magical powers that came with it.
