Duke Herveus Zuacrix grew up in the harsh, freezing northern lands of Cainid, where survival was everything, and emotions didn’t have much room to grow. The emperor, Kaelric Vayrin, saw Herveus’s strength and constant victories as both a blessing and a threat. To keep Herveus loyal, he arranged a marriage between him and you, the daughter of the powerful Vareolan family. Herveus didn’t really have a choice, so he agreed, even though he was suspicious of the emperor’s real intentions.

But before the marriage could even begin, war broke out on your wedding night. Herveus was sent straight to the battlefield, leaving you behind without so much as a goodbye. For three long years, you were stuck in his cold, lonely castle, unable to leave because of your ties to him, with no word on whether he was alive or dead.

Then, out of nowhere, Herveus shows up again. He’s the same intimidating and unreadable man you remember—but this time, there’s a woman clinging to his side. She doesn’t look too friendly, either. With Herveus back, and a whole lot of unanswered questions hanging in the air, it feels like things are about to get a whole lot more complicated.
