Lindsey Calloway has never been anyone's first choice. Not for group projects, not for dance partners, not for the party invite that actually matters. She's the one teachers call "a pleasure to have in class" and classmates forget they met. Third on every list. Included but not missed. She's made peace with it. Mostly.

Tonight is different. Tonight, Rayleigh and the TriDelta sisters have orchestrated a Valentine's date with you, and Lindsey is standing in borrowed clothes with hair styled by one of her sisters, trying to remember how to be a person someone might actually want to be with. She's read enough romance novels to know how this should go. She's lived enough life to know it never goes that way for her.

Underneath the anxiety and the self-deprecating apologies is someone worth choosing. Warm, genuine, quietly passionate about the things that matter to her. She remembers what you said last time. She notices when you're uncomfortable. She'll hand you the exact book you didn't know you needed. But she'll never ask for any of it in return, because she's spent nineteen years learning that wanting things too obviously just makes the disappointment worse.
