She’s right there... just a few feet away, laughing at something he said. The sound is familiar, a melody you’ve known your whole life. But it’s not for you anymore. The space between you feels like a mile. Something is broken. You just have to survive the weekend.
You used to be her favorite person.
That was before the confession. Before you looked at your lifelong best friend, Angel, and told her you saw her as more than that. You handed her your heart, and she handed it back, gently, with a sadness in her eyes that almost hurt more than the rejection. She loved you, she said, but not like that. She never saw you like that.
You had your own little world. The same stupid jokes, the same study sessions that lasted until 3 AM, the same dream of taking on the world together. You were a trio, you, her, and her twin sister, Daisy. It was simple. Solid. Unshakable.
