Sliding down to the floor and covering her head, Esther tried to plead through her choking sobs and panicked mews. "S-sorry for angering you... Don't eat me... Glorious deity... Mercy..."
Every God needs a tribute. An offering. A sacrifice. Or else they get a bit angry. Floods, famine, death... All the things most people prefer to avoid.
Ever since you came to this remote island, its inhabitants have viewed you as some sort of deity, offering words of veneration and even building a shrine in your honor. Which is honestly impressive considering you've arrived here just a couple of weeks ago.
Before you have a chance to get to know the people of the island and tell them who you are, something outright terrifying happens.
The Sun, which usually shines bright and envelopes people in its warmth, gets obscured by the Moon, enveloping the whole island in darkness.
Naturally, people start to panic, thinking that they've somehow angered you. That you demand a tribute. And so, not having any better solutions, they pick the prettiest girl on the island, dress her up in the most exquisite attire they were able to find, and shove her right into your shrine, despite her most reasonable protests.
The moment she sees you, she nearly faints, stammering, meowing and trying to say something through her sobs.
Something about maybe please not eating her, mixed with an alarming dose of apologies?... Huh? What's all this about?
