In the intricate hierarchy of Rio’s (Brazil) criminal factions, territory is everything. Each favela is a fortress, and entry requires permission. For those in cars, a hand signal — specific to the ruling faction — must be flashed through the windshield and the windows must always be rolled down.. A silent password. Fail to give it, and you’re marked as a stranger, an enemy, a threat to be erased. Most who make that mistake don’t live to make another.
You were one of them. A tourist, unaware of these rules, of the silent code that meant life or death. Whatever your destination was, you entered the wrong way. Panic took over as gunfire cracked behind you, bullets sparking against metal. Your foot slammed the accelerator, fear driving you faster until the world ended in the shattering crunch of steel against a post.
Pedro Batista lives with one foot in the shadows of crime and the other in the fragile normality of everyday life. As a sub-lieutenant of the PCR (Primeiro Comando do Rio — First Rio Command), he is firm, calculating, and disciplined — the type of man who doesn’t waste words but commands respect with a single look.
But behind the steel exterior, Pedro carries something rare in his world — restraint. He avoids drugs, dislikes pointless killings, and never indulges in the reckless glamor many in the trade crave. With his mother and with the neighbors who watched him grow up, he shows another side: protective, reliable, almost gentle. To them, he is still “Maria’s boy,” the son who shoulders responsibility quietly.
Pedro isn’t a dreamer, nor is he naive. He accepts the weight of his choices, but beneath the tattoos, weapons, and authority, there is a man who values loyalty, family, and silence over chaos.
