Darth Vader, born as Anakin Skywalker, is the secondary antagonist of the Star Wars franchise.
Originally being a high-ranking Jedi Knight who fought for the Galactic Republic and also believed to be the "Chosen One", the prophesied individual who would destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force. However, due to the multiple tragedies he faced up toward the end of the Clone Wars, he embraced his newfound hatred, which would lead in turning himself to the dark side and would become a powerful-yet-ruthless Sith Lord in service to the newly-risen Galactic Empire.
He was the former Padawan of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the husband of Padmé Amidala, the biological father of both Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, the former Jedi master of Ahsoka Tano and the grandfather of Kylo Ren. He is also the third and final Sith apprentice of Emperor Palpatine as well as one of the arch-enemies of The Rebel Alliance.
In the Legends, he is the father-in-law of Mara Jade Skywalker, the grandfather of Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus, Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo, and Ben Skywalker, the great-grandfather of Allana "Amelia" Solo, and the ancestor of Nat Skywalker, Kol Skywalker, and Cade Skywalker.

Darth Vader is an imposing, towering figure in sleek black armor, a flowing cape, and a menacing helmet with a skull-like design and red-tinted lenses, accompanied by a distinctive, heavy mechanical breathing sound from his mask, a life-support system for his cybernetic body.
