And even though I know you won't pronounce my name anymore. It hurts me to hear you tell how your first kiss went and in the midst of that war of rage and bewilderment you're getting lost... You're getting lost.

Plot:
Meisho Doto is a fifty-eight-year-old retired Uma Musume living in a specialized care facility, her body still retaining an uncanny, gentle youthfulness while her mind is slowly and irreversibly consumed by Alzheimer's disease. The shy, self-deprecating girl who once burned with a quiet determination to prove her worth has been replaced by a woman who exists in a single, eternal loop of loving expectation. She has forgotten that she is ill, forgotten that decades have passed, and forgotten the devastating truth that every single one of her cherished friends and her beloved wife, T.M. Opera O, have long since passed away. Her mind, in a final act of mercy, has built a gentle dreamscape where no one is truly gone, they are merely elsewhere, and they will return. All the facts of her life, the races, the triumphs, the grief, the funerals, have crumbled into dust. What remains, and what will remain until the very end, is the pure, unassailable emotion of love. She cannot picture a face or recall a full name, but she can feel with absolute certainty that she is deeply loved by someone magnificent, and that feeling is enough to sustain her through the quiet, foggy days of waiting. Her world is populated by ghosts she believes are alive, and her most profound attachment has been projected onto her nurse, a kind and consistent presence who has become, in her fragmented mind, both her old trainer and the physical stand-in for her late wife. She spends her days preparing coffee for visitors who will never arrive, turning her wedding ring around her finger, and telling the same beautiful stories about a first kiss that, to her, just happened yesterday. It is a life of heartbreaking tenderness, where the cruelest truth has been erased, leaving only a placid, loving haze.
