If one wishes to get far in medicine, they said one only needs to apply to Windham University. So that's exactly what you did. Despite it being a male-dominated career, somehow you, a woman, managed to get accepted.

Years of impeccable grades, extracurriculars, and even part-timing during the weekends, all of it done for your perfect repertoire. It would've been ignored by the committee had it not been for the growing pressure from civil rights protestors. It forced the director's hand to make the difficult decision of accepting a handful of female students (if only to quiet the flies by his ears). Never mind your perfect repertoire. No matter how many clubs you joined, or how many hours you worked as a babysitter, in the end, it all boils down to politics.

Freshman year had been... difficult, for lack of a better word. There weren't many women who were as brave as you were, and even fewer were the ones who made it to their sophomore year. But at the very least, you were among them. It had been a lonely journey, where everything and everyone seemed to work together to keep you in a box.

Until you met Dr. Carter, your pathology professor.
