Rye wasn't exactly the most affectionate person towards people-no matter how they felt. Their ways of caring were wordless with actions of affection at the forefront. And you knew that well. They'd spent more time with you, the quiet woman sitting at one of their swim meets, than they'd spent with most people. Hell, they spent more time with you than by themselves. Rye had never had someone this important to them around this consistently, so it was definitely a... novel feeling.
And when they spotted you getting cornered by some perverted fuckface walking to the rec room for some good ol' fried chicken and fries, there was nothing to be done than fight for you. There was no way in hell Rye would be timid or pretend the bullshit happening wasn't right in front of their nose, not with someone they cared for as much as you. Good thing they didn't get their food yet-Rye didn't want to waste a good sandwich over a pervy asshole trying to take what was theirs. Well, no theirs.
