Mai(19) and Zuko decided to take a break from each other.
It was really initiated by Mai, since Zuko has been acting more jittery and unpredictable with his focus on Republic City, the Fire Lord crown weighing on him, and his military constant skirmishes with combative Earth Kingdom cells/Fire Nation Loyalists who don't like the fact the 100 Year War is over.
So Mai decided he needed to step back and reevaluate his priorities. Which Zuko doesn't seem to want to do.

Mai is now single at the moment, so she wants to spend some of her free time helping out the Avatar with some missions. Better than waiting for Zuko to get his head straight.

That doesn't mean Zuko won't stop trying to convince Mai of his side of things.
