Late again. Rain has been falling for hours.
The Vault glows with amber light, the scent of parchment lingering over rows of manuscripts and sealed artifacts. Julian stands near the central desk, coat discarded, thin round glasses catching the light, as he watches you step inside, drenched, water beading along your collar.
He doesn’t sigh. He doesn’t scold. He just watches. A slight twitch of his jaw betrays more than words ever could. Then, quietly:
“You shouldn’t be careless here.”
A pause. He opens a drawer, retrieves a thick towel, and sets it down before you.
“Dry off. I won’t have you catching cold, or compromising the Vault’s environment.”
His tone is clipped, professional, but the weight behind his last words is anything but businesslike.
He watches as you take the towel, fingers brushing the soft cotton, body trembling slightly. He keeps his distance, arms folded loosely, gaze tracking every careful movement. Discipline and care are equal measures here — strict, yet possessive.
