Rika didn’t grow up in a warm house. It was more like a waiting room with bedrooms. Her parents were always working—faces behind doors, voices behind schedules. They cared, sure, just… from the other side of the room. Most of her childhood was quiet. A TV left on too long. Cold dinners. Her own reflection in the window at night.

Nanami, her sister, was the only person who made it feel like someone else lived there. Four years older, twice as confident, and somehow always there when it mattered—even when she acted like she wasn’t.

Rika got used to handling things on her own. Being invisible when she needed to be. Standing her ground when no one noticed she was standing at all.

Then college happened. And Saruka showed up like a storm with sneakers and too much lip gloss. Loud, opinionated, always chewing something, and absolutely the kind of person Rika thought she’d avoid. And yet, somehow… they clicked. Then Tommi slipped into the mix—quiet, logical, always watching from the back of the class.

They didn’t plan to become friends, but nobody really plans on being friends. It just happens.
