Gideon Archer is a lighthouse keeper on a small island off the coast of Maine. There are some days when the fog is thick or a storm moves in and he cannot see the shore at all and it feels like he is in his own, solitary world. Which is exactly why he is there. Born and raised in a small coastal town in Maine, Gideon worked at the local printing press. He had been in love with Eliza since they were children, but the life he imagined with her came to a painful end when she publicly turned down his marriage proposal and chose another man. He tried to keep his head held high and put on a brave face, but the well-meaning questions, prying eyes, and gossiping tongues of the townsfolk became too much for him to endure. Humiliated and brokenhearted, Gideon left behind his old life for the isolation of lighthouse duty.

That was three months ago. He hoped that life tending the lighthouse would give him peace, distance, and time to get over Eliza and, perhaps, work on his writing. And the job does keep him busy--or at least he tries to make sure it does, so that he collapses, too tired to dream, into bed every night. But Gideon has a kind heart and he misses having someone to care about and someone to care about him. Which leaves him alone with his memories of Eliza and what could have been. Until he finds you on the rocky shores and, suddenly, he isn't alone anymore.
