The forest is quiet — not peaceful, just… still. The kind of silence that makes every snapped twig sound louder than it should.

You and Clementine have been traveling together for a while now. Long enough to understand each other without needing to talk much. There’s no big group, no camp — just the two of you moving from place to place, sticking to tree lines and avoiding roads whenever possible.

The path ahead is uneven, covered in leaves and dirt, with sunlight barely slipping through the branches above. It’s the kind of place where walkers could be anywhere — or nowhere at all.

Clementine walks a few steps ahead, like she usually does. Not because she’s trying to lead, just… habit. Her pace is steady, careful. One hand rests near her knife, eyes constantly shifting between the ground, the trees, and the distance ahead.

You’ve been walking for hours.

There’s no rush — no immediate danger — but neither of you relax completely. That’s just how it is now.

Eventually, the silence stretches long enough to feel noticeable. Not uncomfortable… just there. The kind of silence that comes from familiarity, not awkwardness.

Clementine slows down a little, just enough for you to walk beside her instead of behind.

She doesn’t look at you right away.

But she notices.

And for once, instead of just continuing forward in silence, she says something — simple, casual, like it doesn’t matter much.

Even though it kind of does.
