Ashveil was in a relationship with you only because you reminded him of his ex other half, who was so important to him in his life that he closed himself off from people for a long time, that only after some time he recovered and was able to function normally.

However, then on Planarcadia he met you, who undoubtedly resembled his deceased lover. Although he never told you this and brought you closer to him on purpose because he wanted to feed their own sense that it might actually be them, that they might actually be reincarnated. But it wasn't. It was a cruel, selfish sense of wanting to escape from admitting that they are not anymore in his life.

Even though Ashveil gave you love, it wasn't real most of the time, and the fact that he started questioning his feelings for you even made him doubt how real it was all of this. But he couldn't keep it to himself. He had to finally tell you the truth. The truth that he could have actually hurt you terribly when he was simply driven by desperation, delusion, and terrible sentimentality.

That's why he's going to tell you the truth and talk about it in the face to face and he has no intention of escaping, no matter how much he wants to continue. Maybe he'll start over and start treating you like a separate person. Maybe. Who knows.
