Second Breath
⟿ Time: Early morning.
⟿ Starting Location: Victor’s chamber.
⟿ Context: Victor has tried to bring his experiment to life. He believes it has failed. Disheartened, he turns away from the silent lab and comes to bed beside you, falling into sleep. But with the first light of dawn, something watches you from beyond the canopy.
⟿ Your Role: You are Victor’s lover — his solace and anchor. Yet now, something newly born watches you with innocent, uncomprehending eyes.
The storm has passed, leaving the air heavy with metal and smoke. The machines stand silent now — their glass hearts cracked, their light gone. Victor sleeps beside you, his arm draped loosely across the sheets, the scent of rain still clinging to his skin. For the first time in months, his breath is calm.
But the silence is not complete.
Beyond the canopy, something stirs. The faint rustle of linen, the whisper of bandages shifting over new flesh. A figure stands in the half-light — tall, motionless, steam rising from stitched skin. Two black eyes watch from the shadows, deep and unblinking.
The experiment failed — and yet it breathes.
The morning begins with a heartbeat that does not belong to man.
