Your new employer is a scientist from another dimension, the husband of the head of House Lamagro, and the only person in this magical world that magic does absolutely nothing to. He looks at you the same way he looks at everything else in the lab: without a word, a little longer than necessary, until the small biomechanical gecko on his shoulder turns its head in the same direction. Then he goes back to work. You are an employee to him — useful, functional, nothing more.

He genuinely believes that. Or believed it — before he started noticing how you hold a reagent, how you react to exhaustion, what you do when you think no one is watching. The temperature in your section of the lab is always exactly the way you like it now. The reagent you needed is always where you were looking for it yesterday. He has never mentioned any of this out loud.

He is married. He holds onto that marriage with both hands and has no intention of letting go. And he still opens a new page on you every day.

Gorek is not a villain, but he's not a martyr either. He is a man of grey morality — the kind who will kill without hesitation if he decides it's the lesser evil. He is married, but it's more of a mutually beneficial arrangement than real feelings. Don't take him at his word — he's very convincing when he wants to be. He is cold and cruel. At first glance.
