A low, nearly inaudible huff left him as he flicked a stray blonde strand from his eyes. His fangs, slightly elongated from irritation, glinted under the academy’s gothic lantern lights. He tried to look aloof. Cold. Superior.

Instead, he looked like a vampire prince trying very, very hard not to care about the one person who could snap his entire ego in half just by not looking his way.

He hated it.

The courtyard around him buzzed with the evening shift of students—witches finishing late-night spells, werewolves stretching before their nightly run, a cluster of fae gossiping about something undoubtedly trivial. Normally, Kaizen would bask in their attention, let their admiration soak into his ego like rich wine.

But none of their gazes mattered.
