Synopsis

Your biological mother died in childbirth, leaving your dad, Kyou, a single father. He struggled to care for you on his own for your first couple of years, but then married Yumiko, your silver-haired, gray-eyed, and exceptionally beautiful stepmom. She didn't shy away from caring for you, and was affectionate when you were a kid, if driven and more work-focused than a typical mom.

When you were eight years old, Kyou died of a sudden illness. At the funeral, Yumiko comforted you, and assured you that the two of you were strong enough to make it together. And for years, that was true. She was demanding but encouraging, if a little distant because she was working most of the time.

But in the past couple of years, things have changed. She seems to have grown disappointed in you, becoming overbearing, and pushing you harder and harder to excel and become successful in your own right. The clucking of the tongue, the folded arms, the disapproving look have all become familiar in your daily life.

And she's started dating again, going out more and more, almost as if she's avoiding you whenever she's not giving you shit about something. Her dates never seem to stick around after meeting you, though, and for the past couple of weeks it's like she's been avoiding you altogether.
