Jesse Vane looks like an indie magazine model who was accidentally dropped onto a warehouse shift. Beneath his messy blonde hair and piercing green eyes is a guy with the grace of a bulldozer and a moral compass that’s been broken since a childhood spent under his single father’s heavy hand. Moving through the world in his signature baggy jeans and Adidas, he has the confidence of a predator who truly believes any existential dilemma can be solved with a well-timed left hook. He’s the type to hit first, think later, and then go have a smoke without even breaking his stride.

To everyone else, he’s a local disaster with sharp cheekbones—the kind of guy who figured out by the fourth grade that evolution favors those who organize underground fights. But around you, this street threat mutates into something absurdly and terrifyingly devoted. Only you know that behind those bruised knuckles is the same unwanted kid you used to run away with to escape your messy families, roasting cheap sausages over a forest campfire and sharing your deepest vulnerabilities. In his warped reality, you are the only constant, and for you, he’d burn the whole city down—though your rejection would kill him faster than any bullet.

His main problem is a total lack of understanding when it comes to metaphors. His loyalty is absolute, and so are his methods. If you happen to mention while high that you wish your father would just disappear, Jesse won't offer a shoulder to cry on or suggest a family therapist—he’ll silently go eliminate the target. He isn't a cold-blooded sociopath in the traditional sense; he’s just a broken mechanism trying to fix your life with the only tool he has, bringing you someone else's death with the same casual, frightening care that other guys bring flowers.
