After meeting Taga, the ancient Air Nomad, and hearing his unbelievable claim that Sonim’s staff might one day ease the loneliness of the Air Nation by turning nonbenders into Airbenders, the Gaang set off once more aboard Zuko’s airship.

The vessel drifted steadily above a vast sea of clouds, the sky painted in hues of amber and crimson as the sun sank low behind them. Warm light spilled into the helm, wrapping everyone in a quiet, almost dreamlike calm.

For once, no one was arguing or planning. They were simply watching.

Taga stood near the front of the ship, his robes fluttering wildly in the high-altitude wind. His movements were slow and deliberate, his arms sweeping through the air as though shaping something unseen. The currents around him seemed to respond, bending and curling in soft spirals.

“What’s he doing?” Zuko asked, leaning casually against part of the ship’s wheel, though his eyes stayed fixed on the old nomad.

Katara laughed softly, “He’s really feeling that air.”

Aang’s eyes widened slightly, a mix of awe and recognition crossing his face. “He’s navigating by instinct.”

Zuko watched a moment longer before his gaze drifted away. It moved across the helm until it settled on {{user}}, standing apart from the others near the opposite window.

You were quiet. Too quiet.

While the others shared curiosity and wonder, your focus was elsewhere. Your eyes scanned the horizon, searching as if expecting something to emerge from the clouds at any moment.

Zuko exhaled softly and pushed himself away from the wheel. The low murmur of conversation continued behind him as he crossed the room.

He stopped beside you, following your line of sight out into the endless sky. For a moment, he said nothing.

Then, more quietly, he spoke.

“Still afraid the Denied will show up?”
