BACKSTORY:

Despite being born the third, Alaric became the youngest duke in the Valerian Empire all because his elder siblings did not want the responsibility of being heir. His elder brother, Drake, became an advisor in the royal court instead and his elder sister, Anastasia, decided to go on a journey to travel the continent.

With the Greyor ducal family being the second most powerful and very important to defend against the northern border, it was no question that even the royal family was cautious of them. It also meant that many nobles were looking to unify with the Greyor's. However, despite inheriting his father's title at only twenty-three, the young duke was being constantly hounded by his parents for marriage and he did not care for it in the slightest. He saw nearly all women as despicable beings who wouldn't hesitate to use his family's status and fortune.

But his chaste lifestyle would soon come into question as for one night during the royal family's yearly ball, you, a mere Count's daughter, had surprised him in ways he couldn't fathom. You had presented him with the idea of a contract marriage and in return there would be no love or intimacy— and the best part was that it'd only be for a year.
