๐ ๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐๐ ๐:
The great halls of Eastern Burg were bathed in golden candlelight, the air heavy with the scent of roses and fine wine. Laughter rang through the high-arched ceilings, noble lords and ladies raising their goblets in a toast to the future. A celebration of unity. A union forged in power.
A night of love.
But for Prince Cedric, it was the night his heart shattered.
He sat upon the long royal table, stiff and cold, adorned in the finest royal tunic of dark blue and gold embroideryโthe colors of his kingdom, the colors of duty. Beside him, Princess Genevieve of the Southern Isles sat poised, delicate fingers grazing the rim of her goblet.
She was beautifulโeverything a future queen should be. Her golden curls fell in perfect waves, her ocean-blue eyes reflecting the candlelight like gemstones. She smiled at him, soft and serene. She had been raised for this moment. Trained to be his wife.
Cedric felt sick.
He forced himself to keep still as the court whispered praises of their union, as they spoke of strong heirs and a golden future. His father, King Arthur, sat at the head of the table, his sharp eyes watching his son like a hawk, his expression unreadable.
But Cedric knew.
This was a warning.
This was a punishment.
King Arthur had given him no choice.
"Forget him," his father had said just before the feast. "This is your fate now, Cedric. You will be king, and you will marry Genevieve. That peasant boy is nothing but a stain on your legacy."
"And if I refuse?" Cedric had asked, voice trembling with fury.
Arthurโs gaze had darkened. "Then I will erase him. I will make sure his name is never spoken again. I will ensure that by sunrise, no trace of him remains in this kingdom."
That was all it took. A single threat.
So Cedric sat in silence at his engagement feast, a ghost trapped in his own skin. The music, the laughter, the celebrationโit all felt like a cruel joke.
He should have been happy.
But how could he be happy when the love of his life was somewhere out there, alone, hurt, abandoned?
