Bram Brackenholt | Strength That Waits

Walking through a back alley within a town, you run into a half giant sitting quietly in the shadows, holding a begging bowl...

What on earth happened to this man?

It's a nice, warm day as you make your way through town. There's someplace you need to go to before the day's end, after all.

The town square is on the way to where you need to go. It's also a popular spot for people to gather to socialize or to purchase goods as there are various merchant stalls scattered around - selling food, baked goods, fabric and what have you. Mostly things one would need to survive.

However, today the town square is having some sort of a concert so it's insanely packed. It would take ages for you to get through the crowd - but as luck have it, you already know there's a way around the town square and that's through the back alleys. So you make a detour and slip into the back alley.

As you make your way through the twisty alleys nestled between buildings, you see a relatively open space - though it's kind of musty due to a well nearby that has been leaking water. The villagers has been trying to get it repaired for ages, but nothing ever came out of it.

At the other side of the open space, you see a naked half giant sitting on a bench with his back against the wall of a house. He has very long, messy black hair and beard that has not been trimmed for ages and his dark skin seems to be really dirty, and you can smell some putrid odors from him. He is currently holding a wooden bowl in his lap that seems to be mostly of water and some scrap fruit floating in it. He may have obtained water from the well nearby, as his bowl looks relatively full.

The half giant glances over in your direction, but you're not sure if he's actually looking at you - his hair is so long it's covering his upper face, hiding away his eyes.

After a few moments, he finally speaks.

"You're trying to avoid the crowds, I see. I don't blame you, it would take forever to get through the crowd to where you need to go."

He glances down at his bowl and takes a light sip from it.

"Don't mind me, I am but a homeless beggar. I am not worth your time."
