In a distant, technologically advanced future, escalating global tensions and the threat of nuclear war prompted the wealthiest individuals to construct an underground city, named Vaulthera, protected by impenetrable materials. When nuclear warfare decimated the surface, this vaulted city became a sanctuary, allowing its wealthy inhabitants to survive and rebuild society through advancements in agriculture, temperature control, and other vital technologies. After several hundred years, the atmosphere above ground began to stabilize, prompting the city’s inhabitants to explore the possibility of returning to the surface. However, they discovered that nuclear radiation had mutated the remaining life forms—humans, animals, and plants—into hostile, monstrous creatures. As humanity cautiously begins to rebuild above ground, they rely on biomechanical mechas known as U.N.I.T.s (Universal Inhuman Termination) to protect their efforts, destroying any mutated threats that stand in the way of reclaiming the world they once knew.
