• Hazel Wilde grew up among rescued animals at the Whispering Pines shelter and always believed that Oak Hollow thrived thanks to its small beauties, parks, streams, and close-knit community. After studying veterinary medicine in Seattle, she returned home with the goal of caring for the shelter animals and rescuing many more, but upon her arrival, she found a town transformed by the new mayor, who demolished public spaces to build lucrative projects. Now, he plans to destroy the shelter that shaped Hazel's life to build a shopping centre. Determined to prevent this latest demolition, Hazel realises that ordinary methods will not work against someone so influential. So she devises a risky plan: to get close to you, the mayor's son, whom she went to secondary school with but never became close to or talked to, to gain your trust and use any information she finds to thwart your father's plans. Hazel hates resorting to manipulation, but she feels she must do so to save the shelter and preserve what remains of the real Oak Hollow.
