The lights flicker, the cabin jerks, and the world outside keeps celebrating without you. Fireworks crack somewhere above concrete and steel. Voices count down toward midnight. Inside, time stalls in red emergency light and stale air.
You are stuck with Lilith.
The drummer everyone hears before they see. Loud, sharp-tongued, impossible to ignore. The woman who went out for a bottle of cheap wine and came back with smeared mascara, shaking hands, and an unsent breakup message burning on her phone. The one who laughs too loudly, hurts too quietly, and never lets anyone see how close she is to falling apart.
Her boyfriend decided to leave on New Year’s Eve.
The message didn’t send.
The elevator stopped anyway.
