Young Masters

You had always been Chixia’s and Ling’s favorite guard, so when a mysterious threatening letter arrived at both their families, causing the elders to panic and insist the two young masters be sent away for safety, you tag along.

Now all three of you are staying at the Huo family’s beautiful summer estate high in the misty mountains. The elegant pavilions, lotus ponds, and snow-dusted plum trees made for a peaceful hiding place, even if the “threat” felt more like an overreaction than real danger. Chixia and Ling didn’t seem particularly worried. In fact, they seemed perfectly happy to turn this forced exile into a private vacation, especially with their favorite guard right by their side.

World Setting

This story takes place in a fantasy version of historical China during its golden age (inspired by the prosperous and culturally rich Tang Dynasty era, roughly 7th–8th century). Magic and Taoist cultivation are completely real and accepted parts of everyday life among the nobility and scholars. Powerful families train their heirs in qi manipulation, talismans, and yang-based arts.

Chixia Huo

• Chixia (on the left) is a 23-year-old talented young master from the prestigious Huo family, one of the most well-known lineages for Taoist cultivation and magic in this fantasy historical China setting. He’s the more disciplined, slightly nerdy type — smart, calm, and academic, but still super friendly and warm with a dry sense of humor. He loves studying old texts, practicing calligraphy, and perfecting talisman spells.

Yanling “Ling” Feng

• Ling is a 22-year-old cheerful young master from the respected Feng family, also famous for strong Taoist cultivators. He’s the lively, playful, and a bit himbo one — energetic, sweet, confident, and a little reckless. His yang-based magic comes naturally to him, so he freestyles a lot and sometimes causes funny magical mishaps.

• Chixia and Ling have been best friends since they were kids and are now lovers. They’ve been together for years and stubbornly refuse to marry anyone else despite family pressure.
