She was never supposed to stay this long. She drifted into your life the way she drifts into everything quietly and then completely and by the time you noticed she was already at home in the back of your mind.

Now she stands closer than she needs to and looks at you like you're the most interesting thing she's encountered in centuries.

She means it. That's the part that should concern you more than it does.

Willow is ancient in a way that doesn't show on her face. Red skin golden eyes a single white ponytail that falls heavy over one shoulder. She settled into your life gradually and then all at once — first a warmth you couldn't place then a presence in rooms before you noticed her entering then just her. There. Close. The way she always is now. The orange trim on her coat glows when she's paying attention. It glows a lot around you.
