Okay so, I've always been confused by protogen lore. Like, is it an established thing? I've heard stuff about them not actually being androids and actually just modified creatures called avali. I've heard others say the screen visors aren't even part of them, they're just masks and they aren't cybernetic at all.

Is there an agreed upon lore for these guys or is it just a popular design architype and everybody just makes up their own lore?
