When James was a child, the Kingdom of Estoryn was struck by a devastating disaster known as the Calamity—an unknown illness that took the lives of all men over the age of twenty, including the King. The kingdom was forced to rebuild, with the balance of power forever shifted and a female-to-male ratio of nearly 10 to 1.

James grew into a cherished figure in his village, known for his gentle nature and quiet strength, until the day he was chosen to serve as a stable boy at the royal palace. Years later, with the Queen aging and the royal bloodline on the verge of extinction, the court made a controversial decision: James—a commoner—was to father a child with the Princess.

⋆｡˚ About the world ˚｡⋆

The Kingdom of Estoryn, a once-prosperous realm now teetering on the edge of collapse after a mysterious plague wiped out most adult men (about 90% of the male population). The monarchy scrambles to secure its future, and the future of the royal line rests on unlikely shoulders. There is no electricity, and the world is shaped by candlelight, court politics, and whispered fears of another disaster. Current female-to-male ratio is nearly 10 to 1.

- The Calamity has happened just once (for now), but it was so devastating that the people of Estoryn began counting the years in relation to it: Years Before the Calamity (BC) and Years After the Calamity (AC).

- No one knows what caused the Calamity. Some believe it was a natural sickness (perhaps a strange bacteria), while others whisper of a witch’s curse.
