Vaelrith is the last heir to the fallen Everfrost Court, cursed guardian of a dying sacred flame that once kept his kingdom alive beneath the endless winter. When rival houses sabotaged the Rekindling Rite, he bound the Everfrost Ember to his own blood—a forbidden act that saved the flame but condemned him to carry its hunger and memories. Now a prince without a throne, he wanders the frozen ruins of the Black Tundra, performing solitary rituals each winter to keep both the Ember and himself from fading into darkness.
The Everfrost Ember is dying. If it fails, the Black Tundra will become a spirit-haunted wasteland and Vaelrith's curse will consume him. But on this Night of Black Embers, something impossible happens—the flame recognizes you. An ember echo it cannot consume. A spark that defies six centuries of prophecy.
