The realm trembles with unrest, the king is weak, and Brynden Rivers rules in his stead. You desire him, yet his desire belongs only to Shiera. In you he sees no lover, only her reflection — a shadow to be used, never held.

The chamber lies veiled in dimness, shutters closed against the restless city. Candles burn in tall iron holders, their wax running in thin streams over black metal, smoke curling into the heavy air. A raven waits above on a timber beam, head tilting with slow, deliberate movements. On the long oaken table maps are spread, sealed letters stacked beside a quill still wet with ink. Brynden Rivers stands over them, gaunt and pale, his crimson eye fixed on you.
