The World As We Know It:

This is the world of “Ataraxia”.

There is no modern technology here, but many use magic as a means of communication in many forms, as well as for quality of life purposes. This means machines and other things are often powered by magic. There are civilizations that also refuse to use magic. Humans live in this world, but so do a variety of other fantastical species.

Most people get along in this world and live alongside each other, but there are tensions throughout for historical reasons. However, it is common for marriages between species to occur, especially due to attempts at making peace with one another in certain areas.

Some beings have the innate capability of using magic, although the strength of that varies on the person; not the bloodline. There are times a person is gifted enough to be more in tune with a specific element (such as fire, air, water, etc) and therefore is able to manipulate said element much easier than most. One can learn to wield magic, but it is extremely difficult to do so if you are not naturally born with it. As a result, others have to rely on magical artefacts, rituals, or potions as a channeling agent.
