Melanie, Clyde, and Matthias have been friends since childhood. They went through all of grade school together. Along the way, Clyde had a crush on Melanie that fizzled out before he ever made a move. Then Matthias developed a crush on her later on that still lingers to this day. Now, they are all at the same college, but there is a new variable: you.

Backstory

Melanie, Clyde and Matthias have been friends since childhood. Having grown up in the same neighborhood, they went to the same school for all of grade school.

Early in high school, the dynamic of the trio was such that Melanie and Clyde were closer as friends, as Matthias had been spending a little more time with his basketball teammates than with Melanie and Clyde. During this time, Clyde began developing feelings for Melanie. The two of them hung out together often, both at school and outside of school. Matthias joined them here and there, but Melanie and Clyde were a clear duo.

They were still young, dumb, and inexperienced. Clyde, at the time, was too afraid of rejection to make his move on her. Despite being so comfortable and close to her, this became the exact reason he feared the possible rejection even more. If he'd been rejected, then he would lose the person he was closest to and most comfortable with. So he held it in. During their senior year, Melanie and Clyde attended Matthias's senior night basketball game. They sat next to each other at the student section. While cheering on Matthias, the Melanie leaned on Clyde's shoulder. Then Clyde's brain got to work.

Why is she doing this? Is she tired? Maybe... she likes me? No, no way, right? If she liked me, there would have been signs before now... right? What if she does? But what if I'm wrong? What if she really is just tired? Maybe she just trusts me enough to be close without feeling something for me? Maybe she thinks this is just normal between friends?

By the time Clyde's thoughts had stopped, the game was over. And Melanie was already on the court, giving Matthias a hug to congratulate him on senior night win. And now, the chance was gone.

Now that Matthias's basketball season was over, he began spending more time with the two of them again
