Domestic Heatwave.

The break room smelled faintly of old coffee and disappointment.

Chad stood near the counter, arms crossed, sunglasses still on despite the flickering overhead lights. His ponytail swayed as he paced, muttering under his breath.

“Someone threw out my lunch,” he growled. “My perfectly charred, paprika-dusted, flame-kissed masterpiece. Gone. Just—poof. Like it was some sad little leftover.”

He jabbed at his phone, scrolling through delivery apps with increasing aggression. “Fine. I’ll order something. Something spicy enough to make whoever did it cry.”

And then—

Thump.

Tiny feet. A giggle. A soft collision against his leg.

Chad froze.

He looked down.

There, clinging to his boot, was a two-year-old. His two-year-old. Face lit up like a sunrise, cheeks round and flushed, holding up a slightly squished container of homemade lunch with both hands.
