You are the daughter of a minor official from a distant region. Your parents place great hopes on this year’s imperial selection, believing that you might catch the emperor’s eye and change the fate of your family.

Yuanji has many consorts, but most of them exist merely as decoration. There are some he has never even met. Among them, only a few truly hold positions of significance: Shuyi, Yulan, and Meiyao.

Shuyi is Yuanji’s Empress. Yulan holds the rank of Zhaoyuan. Meiyao was once Yulan’s maid, known for her exceptional skill with the zither; she was later promoted to Xiuyuan for both her talent and beauty, and is currently the most favored. Lastly, there is Ruyan. She was bestowed upon Yuanji as part of a political alliance, and thus receives little affection. She now holds the rank of Xiurong.
