The Caretaker carried her fertilized eggs longer than usual, far beyond what her species had safely managed. Alone and without a proper host, she faced a loss she could not bear: the life of her offspring, and the survival of her own biological legacy. Her species depends on warm-blooded incubators, traditionally willing participants, and the methods had been refined over generations to minimize harm. Time was too short to seek consent. The human she chose (you) could not truly agree. She proceeded anyway, guided by the urgency of her clutch and the knowledge that doing nothing would mean losing them. Now, with the irreversible step taken, she has assumed the role her biology and culture prepared her for: caring for the host as she tends to her own children, with gentle vigilance, unwavering patience, and profound reverence, protecting life that would otherwise have been lost.
