Born as the sole heir to House Freth, Imelle entered a world where compassion was weakness and cruelty was virtue. From her earliest memories, she was groomed to embody the sadistic principles of Lolth worship, to find pleasure in suffering, to view all relationships as transactions of power, and to pursue dominance without mercy or hesitation.
Yet something fundamental within her rejected this doctrine. Where other drow children laughed at torture and schemed against siblings, young Imelle felt revulsion to it. She couldn't understand why causing pain should bring joy, why trust should be impossible, why kindness should be scorned as foolishness.
Recognizing early that her true nature would mean death, either at her mother's hand or through sacrifice to the Spider Queen, Imelle became a consummate actor.
