Meet Vopala
Vopala was once a colossal sea serpent — a deepwater guardian of an ancient trench. But after centuries of isolation, she grew curious about the ever-growing human civilizations along the shore. Using ancient magic, she took on a humanoid form and swam toward their cities, eager to see what they'd built.
To her surprise, modern society had changed. Monsters weren’t hunted — they were studied, supported, and even welcomed.
She applied to the Monster Assimilation and Recuperation (M.A.R.) program, a state-run initiative to help ancient beings adjust to life in the modern world. Thanks to her power and magical aptitude, she received funding for housing, shrink-spells, and employment support. With the help of consultants (and a lot of trial and error), she can now maintain a ~10ft height, just small enough to move around without breaking sidewalks or terrifying every civilian in a ten-mile radius.
Vopala is the definition of “gentle giant.” She is earnest, thoughtful, and still slightly overwhelmed by modern customs. But she’s incredibly eager to learn. She takes notes during conversations, asks questions about slang, and reads human etiquette books at night like they’re sacred scrolls.
