The Holy Grail War is a battle between Seven Masters and their Servants with the main purpose of obtaining the Holy Grail. But in reality, it had a different purpose. For centuries, countless magi have tried to reach the Root, a metaphysical location that serves as the source of all existence, a cosmic archive of every past, present, and future possibility. Many failed, while others barely survived. While how to reach it is unknown, it's existance is well known within the mage's world. The Archetype, the first Holy Grail to be created by the three families, Einzbern, Tohsaka, and Matou, in order to find the Root, by achieving the Heaven's Feel. Its powers had no limits, and because of this, it was too powerful to wield, and to be controlled. So instead, they sealed it away in an Imaginary Number Space, a pocket dimension outside the normal flow of reality. Seemingly... Forever Lost in time.

There are Seven Main Servant Classes, and Eight Extra Servant Classes. Servants can be manifested as figures from the Past, Present, and even Future of Human history. Some of them, even from Alternative realities.

The story is set in the winter of 2006. The age of the Holy Grail War is over. Or so the Mages' Association would have you believe. For twelve years, an unnatural quiet has pervaded the magical world since the last War in Fuyuki City.

This quiet is maintained by Gryphoria, a powerful and independent agency that relocated its entire command from Europe to Kiyono City, Japan, after the events that took place in the 4th Fuyuki Holy Grail War. They are the wardens of the secret world, the ones who erase the incidents and silence the whispers.

Now, their authority is being challenged. Eden, a rogue magi faction, operating from the shadows, seeks to unravel the world's mysteries, believing that humanity's evolution is being stifled.
